the MotorV8 story
For Sarah, seeing the business grow has been a wonderful experience.
“I’m hugely proud of Motorv8,” she says. “I always knew, when we started our own business, I would like to grow MotorV8 and train instructors, but to have a fleet of cars within 18 months was more than I thought possible.”
Sarah and Nathan chose MotorV8 as the name for the driving school as they wanted to motivate learners to become safe and competent behind the wheel, providing support for both the practical and theory tests that all new drivers must pass before they start their own motoring adventure.
We are immensely proud of MotorV8's reputation as one of the best, most reliable driving schools in West Norfolk, with a superb pass rate among our many pupils.
Our team of skilled driving instructors and fleet of branded MotorV8 training cars can be seen on the road all over West Norfolk, including King’s Lynn, Downham Market, Watton and Swaffham.
But when we first started out, we had just the two of us and a new business to get off the ground needing a lot of hard work.
It was Sarah and Nathan Kennedy who got the MotorV8 ball rolling, launching the driving school in early 2019. Sarah, already an experienced driving instructor, taught lessons in MotorV8’s sole vehicle, while Nathan joined her shortly afterwards with a focus on training new instructors.
Since then, and despite the Covid-19 pandemic, MotorV8 has gone from strength to strength, with the driving school expanding to include a busy fleet of branded cars.
“I’ve always taken great pleasure in watching a pupil grow, sometimes from having absolutely no motoring or Highway Code experience to becoming a confident and safe driver whose life and opportunities improve hugely with a driving licence,” says Sarah.
“I keep in touch with most pupils and when they get a great job, drive themselves to university or can drive the kids to school on a rainy day, I feel a great sense of achievement. Passing your driving test is a day most people remember – we’re lucky enough to be part of it.”
MotorV8 now has six branded cars, with Sarah and Nathan joined by Alison, Julie, Dan and Pat in their mission to help new drivers change their lives for the better.
Lessons are usually taught in manual cars although MotorV8 does have a dedicated vehicle for those who want to learn with automatic transmission.
“All the learner drivers we see are different and have different learning needs, so we try to adapt our lessons to suit the individual driver,” says Sarah.
“Many have never driven before while some are competent practical drivers who have been held up getting their driving licence just because they couldn’t pass the theory test – a practical driving test cannot be booked until the theory test is passed.
“Some pupils were actually on the verge of giving up on their driving full stop when they came to us, simply because they couldn’t pass the theory test, which is a real shame. Thankfully, we helped them to pass and now they are safe and happy drivers.
“Sometimes it’s just down to a lack of revision. Feedback from some pupils is that they don’t really know how to revise for a theory test.”
As a customer of MotorV8, free access to Theory Test Pro is included, where mock tests can be completed and the pupil’s MotorV8 instructor can observe progress, providing insight and feedback about which areas the student needs to work on.
“We started one-to-one tuition with pupils who had failed multiple tests and we found after some training they would go on and pass next time which was great,” adds Sarah. “We help them with revision techniques, discuss driving scenarios and cover how to complete the test.”
Due to the ongoing pandemic, MotorV8 will be offering online theory test support using video conferencing software.
